The Assam Cabinet has approved the establishment of two new private universities in the state: EdTech Skills University in Tinsukia and Maa Kamakhya National University in Sipajhar. These institutions are designed to enhance higher education and promote skill-based learning, aligning with the state’s goal to meet evolving educational and research demands.

To ensure these universities operate with national security considerations, amendments have been made to the Assam Private Universities Act, 2007. These amendments require private universities to obtain national security clearance before commencing operations, aiming to uphold academic integrity and prevent regulatory violations.

In addition to the establishment of these universities, the Assam government has partnered with Pan IIT Alumni Reach to set up 10 skill development centers across the state. This initiative, with an estimated cost of ₹90 crore, aims to equip students and professionals with industry-ready skills, thereby boosting employability and fostering entrepreneurship.

These developments underscore Assam’s commitment to transforming its educational landscape by integrating quality higher education with skill development, aiming to position the state as a hub for academic excellence and industrial growth.
